1. Why is rust protection necessary on new cars?
Although vehicle manufacturers are making cars much better,
rust still occurs. Usually a car is the second largest investement
people make so it pays to take steps to protect that investment.
2. Why is electronic corrosion
protection better than chemical rust proofing?
The RustStop system is more effective than chemical applications
because electronically the entire vehicle sheet metal is protected
and the protection is not dependent upon the quality or quantity
of the chemical used or the standard of the application.
3. Will the RustStop system work with chemical rust proofing?
Absolutely! The RustStop system unit will improve and enhance
any chemical system.
4. Does the RustStop system system stop rust forever?
With nature, nothing can stop a compound from wanting to return
to its natural state. Steel is a combination of iron ore and
additives and has a natural tendency to want to return to its
base form. This is known as the rusting process. There is no
known product that can stop rust forever. What this unit is
designed to do is extend the normal life expectancy of a vehicle's
interior and exterior sheet metal surfaces by slowing down the
corrosion process through the use of a carefully managed electric
current.
5. Will the RustStop system protect my entire vehicle?
The RustStop system will effectively protect all body panels
that are earthed to the vehicle's electrical grounding system.
In essence, the RustStop would protect all earthed body panels
of a vehicle.
6. Can I fit RustStop to a truck with a 24 volt battery?
Yes. RustStop comes in a standard 12 volt system for cars, 24
volt for trucks, busses etc., as well as 6 volt units for vintage
cars and motorbikes.
7. Is it just for use on motor vehicles?
Yes. The RustStop system was primarily designed for motor vehicles.
8. I have a new car, which I may decide to sell in a couple of years. Is it worth the cost of installing the RustStop system?
Yes. Although your car may be new and have factory rust protection,
this does not mean that corrosion or rust will not occur during
its first couple of years. Corrosion can inevitably occur in
hidden places as well as those, which are dented or chipped
externally. The RustStop system can prevent rust-through corrosion
from occurring at these places. If you install The RustStop system on your new car, it will stay in a 'like new' condition
for a longer period of time!
9. Will the RustStop system system drain my battery?
No. RustStop draws less current than most alarm systems and
uses latest technology to enable a voltage step-up to 45V without
overloading the battery. If your battery voltage drops by other
means, e.g. leaving your lights on, then the RustStop has a
smart censor that automatically shuts the unit off, so as not
to damage your battery, and switches back on when the voltage
returns to normal.
10. Will the RustStop system interfere with vehicle radio, CD player, CB Radio, Car Phone, Car's Computer system or burglar alarm system?
No. The RustStop system does not create any type of harmful
radio frequency (RF) energy.
11. Is the RustStop system harmful to humans or animals? Will it cause a shock?
No. The RustStop system will not affect the humans or animals
and it does not cause any type of shock. The RustStop system
will not affect medical devices such as pacemakers or hearing
aids. The RustStop has the appropriate approvals to validate
these claims.
12. Will the heat from the engine affect the RustStop system?
Providing the RustStop control module/anodes have been placed
at least 300mm from direct heat sources such as exhausts manifolds
and turbochargers, there is no effect by the heat that is normally
produced within an engine bay of a vehicle.
13. I have heard that cathodic
protection will only be effective if the metal is submerged
in water and is ineffective in dry conditions?
That is true for systems that purely use one technology. Impressed
Current on its own is effective in dry conditions but cannot
impress enough current to be effective in the wet; Sacrificial
Anodes using cathodic protection is very effective in wet conditions
but far less effective in the dry. RustStop is the only system
available that combines both of these to get the best of both
technologies.
14. How often should I check the RustStop system?
It would be advisable to visually check for proper operation
at any time the bonnet is raised for normal servicing or inspection
of oil or coolant levels. It is advisable that the units should
be checked at least once a year regardless of kilometres travelled.
15. Does the RustStop system contain any serviceable parts?
No. In the event of premature failure, during the warranty period,
simply contact RustStop or your Selling Dealer.
16. Will
RustStop be effective on a vehicle that has existing rust?
Yes. RustStop will help prevent the existing rust from spreading
by over 75% and increased protection can be obtained by the
use of RustStop's Add-On Accessory products.
17. Is
it really necessary to install RustStop onto a brand new vehicle
that has an existing factory warranty?
Definitely. It is best to have protection from day one and even
though new vehicles come with a factory warranty, rust usually
forms from the inside out and so there could be a large amount
of rust present during your warranty period that only become
visible when your warranty expires.
18. How difficult is
it to install a RustStop unit? Can I do it myself?
It is very quick and easy to install and can be done D.I.Y.,
but it is vital that it is installed correctly as incorrect
installation can affect the efficiency.
19. I have an old car,
which has just begun rusting. Are there any benefits in installing
the RustStop system?
Yes. By installing the RustStop system you will slow down the
corrosion process and thus extend your car's life. The RustStop
system helps make used cars rust slower and last longer, however,
the effectiveness will depend on many factors.
20. Will installation of the RustStop system affect the vehicle's manufacturer's warranty?
If the unit is installed properly, you should have no problems
with the vehicle's manufacturer's warranty.
21. Can the RustStop system be installed in any car?
Yes. The RustStop system can be installed to any steel-bodied
car with a 6, 12 or 24-volt electrical system with a negative
ground.
22. Is the RustStop system suitable for 4 wheel drives?
RustStop is suitable for 4 wheel drives, however, consideration
should be made as to the type of environment that the vehicle
will be operating in a continual basis. Electronic Corrosion
Protection on vehicles is designed to slow down the rate that
corrosion occurs, and whilst the RustStop will work in aggressive
conditions it may be worthwhile to consider using a chemical
based system in conjunction with the RustStop.
23. What makes RustStop
any different to the many other electronic units on the market?
RustStop is the only unit that successfully combines both "sacrificial
anode" and "impressed current" technologies.
RustStop is also the only unit that uses a stepped up output
voltage of 45V i.e. the higher the voltage, the more effective
it is, and the greater the area it can protect.
